Strong Roots

Grass under my feet and wind in my hair

Reminding me God, that Your love is there

You are my rock through the chaos on earth

And I know there’s a purpose and loving has worth

When fire and affliction burns hot on your heart

Meaningless madness will tear you apart

Take hold of the moment, stand strong and aware

That darkness will cower to God’s love affair

His power will crush the arrows that fly

The taunts of the enemy become known for their lies

The world spins unknowing the battles to fight

So I war on my knees to replace darkness with light

With each breath in my lungs I vow to live well

And let God use my life as His story to tell

Pages keep turning as days turn to years

I stop to reflect how He’s used all my tears

Seeds of grace and forgiveness flourish and grow

In each burning affliction I’m pushed closer to know

True joy and love when I dig deeper to find

Strong roots reach the Giver of your life and mine.

Saving Joy

Sometimes music takes me

To a sunny beautiful day

Alive and glowing

Lyrical truths to say

Smiling peacefully

Eyelids closed in love

A grateful yes

Question from above

Float above the nothing

Meaningless chatter

Hold fast to serving

Humility on a platter

You will forever be

A dreamer, the few

Who catch hold of life

Saving joy for me

Life is More

Walk with me in silence

To the places I love

Hand in hand I’ll show you

Where my soul fits like a glove

Feel the soft wind breezes

Grassy softness to bare feet

Kick off worldly worries

Let body and hearts meet

Can you hear the Voice calling?

From gently running streams

Mossy waters speaking

Life is more than it may seem.

Brave Hearts

Washing waters cover me

Lovely thoughts of grace

Tell me where your heart may be

And I will find your face

Treasures kept along the way

Behind a door, unlocked

Seek to find the wound and pray

Tormented thoughts are stopped

Another day of life appears

Open the gift of sunrise

Listen as God’s nature cheers

Brave hearts will win the prize.

When you’ve had a taste of something sweet

Something real and indescribable

It’s hard to yield to surrogates

Where masks and mascara disguise

Life looks different, eyes see blurry

Ears hear muffled, heart feels tiny

City lights are cold, brightness blinding

Return to the simple, open breezes

Stretch life across country roads

Blooming borders, miles unwinding

The goodness lies before you

Not without pain or trouble

But the sweet whispers of God always

The only real truth of love stands clear, and yet

Magical beauty only captures dim reflections

While promised eternity shines golden

Simply Go

To let God make us, instead of painfully trying to make ourselves; to follow the path that his love shows us, instead of through conceit or cowardice or mockery choosing another; to trust Him for our strength and fitness as the flowers do, simply giving ourselves back to Him in grateful service,—this is to keep the laws that give us the freedom of the city in which there is no longer any night of bewilderment or ignorance or uncertainty.

Sarah Orne Jewett, A Country Doctor

Something Beautiful

Mistakes can be a catalyst for change if you will give in to the refining. Motives are purified in the heart and love will cover if you love enough. Let God do the heavy lifting and your soul will feel lighter. Seek peace, and pursue it. (Psalm 34:14). Laugh and enjoy the beauty right in front of you. There is always something beautiful.

Sweet Summer Rain

Scorching rays, burn down from the sun

As the heat waves are rising, clouds cover

One drop, then two, then a thousand at once

Suddenly it seems, the sun’s heat was a dream

Washing grass and concrete, cooling the earth

Steamy surfaces once blazing and hot, are now slick

Each one releasing the scent, of sweet summer rain.
